Warner Bros Used Deadpool 2's Digital Release To Plug Green Lantern
When it comes to superhero franchises, Ryan Reynolds knows his way around several different worlds. In fact, the guy's foray into the DC landscape with Martin Campbell's Green Lantern has become particularly infamous and ripe for parody in his Deadpool franchise. That said, it looks like the folks over at Warner Bros. are good sports about the whole thing, because Warner Bros is now using the home release of Deadpool 2 to re-promote Green Lantern. Check out the tweet, below!
It would seem that there are no hard feelings. Deadpool 2 is now officially available on Digital HD (though the 4K and Blu-ray releases will come later this month on August 21), and the folks at Warner Bros. have decided to have some fun piggybacking off of that release by reminding everyone of Ryan Reynolds' history as Hal Jordan back in 2011.
For those who do not already know, Green Lantern has become the stuff of legends among many DC fans. The film bombed when it premiered in 2011, and in many ways, it arguably represented a false start for DC's post-Dark Knight Rises landscape that Man of Steel would eventually pick up two years later when the DCEU officially began. Ryan Reynolds has made no secret of the fact that he's not particularly proud of the film, and he even recently admitted that he has never seen the completed Hal Jordan origin story in its entirety. Now Green Lantern mostly exists to serve as fodder for Reynolds in his (much more widely-accepted and beloved) Deadpool franchise over in the X-Men universe created by the folks at Fox.
Of course, this tweet also serves as a reminder that we will have to wait and see what happens with the Green Lantern property as the DCEU continues to evolve over the course of the coming years. Green Lantern Corps was originally put on the DCEU slate as one of the later entries in the burgeoning franchise, but in recent months it has been pulled from its slot and kept on the backburner as numerous creative shifts have taken place at DC. The Green Lantern Corps was teased during the flashback sequence in Justice League, but we still have no idea when the Corps will actually get to take center stage. Given how many things have changed in recent months, we will have to wait and see what happens.
So remember, you can own both Deadpool 2 AND Green Lantern right now. Warner Bros. have largely responded to Deadpool's jokes about Green Lantern in good humor and to celebrate the digital release of Deadpool 2, they posted a tweet encouraging fans to "own Green Lantern today" alongside an epic picture of Reynolds as Hal Jordan and two heart emojis, one green and one red.

The original Deadpool film took a few shots at Green Lantern, and the second one has done the same, so Warner Bros. was finally compelled to task Tomar-Re to talk to Reynolds. As is his trademark, Reynolds replied: " If we'd used a NuvaRing in the first place, we wouldn't be in this mess."
