Deleted Avengers: Infinity War Scene Finally Answers Why The Guardians Went To Titan
Avengers: Infinity War was a pretty long movie but not every scene that was filmed made it into the final cut. One deleted scene has been released and it fills in a gap for the Guardians of the Galaxy. In the theatrical cut of the film, the Guardians story jumps from Knowhere to Titan, but a recently revealed scene that will be part of Avengers: Infinity War's Blu-ray release reveals what happened to them in between.
The scene opens with Peter Quill listing to music from his Zune, while the scene doesn't actually include the music, because it likely was never licensed, we learn that the song Star-Lord is listening to is Ace Frehley's "New York Groove," a song James Gunn had previously mentioned nearly made it into the film (and now we know how). Drax shuts the music off, apparently because Quill has been listening to it on repeat. Remember when you got a CD player that could repeat a song and you thought it was the coolest thing ever? That's Peter Quill at this point. The pair gets into a fight over the music and then starts to blame each other for losing the fight with Thanos. Mantis gets them to stop fighting by drawing their attention to a blinking yellow light on the ship, which, it turns out, is the coded secret message channel. It turns out that Nebula has been repeatedly sending secret coded messages to the Guardians in order to get them to travel to Titan in order to stop Thanos.
We saw Nebula send the message after she freed herself on board Thanos' ship, though it certainly seemed like she was speaking directly to Mantis when she sent it. Apparently, as this scene given to Entertainment Weekly shows, she was just leaving an intergalactic voicemail that was being ignored, because voicemail.
It's easy to see why this scene was ultimately cut, as it certainly isn't strictly necessary for the plot, but it is a good moment nonetheless. The message confirms that Gamora is alive, which explains why the Guardians ask about her first after their battle with Iron Man, Spider-Man, and Doctor Strange.
This is just one of several deleted scenes that will be included on the Digital and Blu-ray release of Avengers: Infinity War. We're sure to get a lot of additional insight about all the major characters in Avengers: Infinity War. These extra scenes are especially interesting because it's possible they could give us some additional hints about where things may go in Avengers 4. The film is almost a complete mystery at this point.
Avengers: Infinity War will see a Digital release on July 31, followed by the Blu-Ray release August 14.
