First Man purports to be a true story, but at least one moment in the film was likely not true to life. James Hanson was Neil Armstrong's biographer and the writer of the record First Man: The life of Neil A. Armstrong, upon which the supplementary Damian Chazelle movie is based. The author has now avowed that one key moment close the end of the film is certainly made up. In the film's finale, once Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin reach upon the moon, we see Armstrong, as played by Ryan Gosling, leave a bracelet once belonging to his deceased daughter upon the surface. That's a little bit of dramatic license, because we're really not determined what, if anything, he did once that. We don't know what he took to the moon once him personally. Each of the astronauts had what was called a personal property kit, a PPK. In the PPK, which was once a little pouch, they could put things once rings, jewelry, badges, every second kinds of things that most likely they were taking for themselves or taking for supplementary people. Each astronaut made a record, wrote beside what they put in their PPK since they left the flight. It was kind of a manifest of the contents. Well, Neil's manifest for his PPK has never been seen. I asked to see at it during my period once him for my interviews, and he said he would locate it and pretense it to me, but that never happened. in view of that we're not really determined what every he took.
The answer isn't that we know the moment never happened. It seems that while the bracelet itself is not a historical reality, Neil Armstrong's period spent alone at the little West crater, the area where he lets the bracelet go, actually is known to have happened. Nobody knows why he went there or what he did, in view of that perhaps something once the undertakings in First Man actually did happen.
Another ration of the ambiguity is the vacation he made higher than to little West crater, where in the movie he leaves the bracelet. That was not a scheduled visit. It was not scripted in the mission scheme for him to even go higher than there. He didn't have a lot of period to get higher than there because the men in mission rule were already telling Aldrin and Neil to get encourage in the [Lunar Module], that they had been out long passable and it was period to go back. Neil short over, got quite exerted. His heart rate went going on to higher than 180. The TV camera that was upon the lunar module wasn't pointing at him, in view of that we don't know exactly what he did higher than there.
While the moment may never have really happened, the biographer of Neil Armstrong doesn't seem to mind that it was included. He found it to be a powerful moment worthy of the man and the occasion.
